You can be certain you are pregnant by taking an over the counter pregnancy test. These tests cannot have a false positive. In other words they test for a chemical produced only if you are pregnant. It is possible for the test to come back negative (saying you are not pregnant) when you are pregnant, just not far along enough to measure. On the other hand if it comes back positive, you are definitely pregnant.
If your test comes back positive and you later have your period, you have miscarried, it is not that the test was wrong. Because we can determine pregnancy so early on, many more miscarries are also caught. The statistics are somewhere between 8 and 20 percent of women that know that they are pregnant will have a miscarriage within the first 12 weeks of their pregnancy. Of this number about 40 percent lose the pregnancy because of chromosomal abnormalities. How to tell if you are having a miscarriage.
